One of our favorite white wines of the area is the Domingo Molina Torrontés. It has a perfect blend of not too sweet with not too dry, with a great middle line price! The best part is the story behind the name, Domingo Molina, a blend of Osvaldo Domingo and his wife's maiden name, Molina. In fact, the entire Domingo Molina line is excellent for the price and a big seller at Restaurante Colorado!
Tour of the Winery |
We had the honor of taking a tour with the famous man himself, Osvaldo Domingo (Sr.). What an amazing operation. We saw everything from the bottom cellar where all the barrell aged wine stays to where they bottle the wine. Although, our favorite part was seeing the various locations where they grow their wine. They have the most prime and gorgeous locations that you have to wonder if this is really work for the Domingo Family. The bodega is now run by the three sons, Osvaldo (Jr.), Rafael, and Gabriel. They also have a cheese making farm that produces amazing goat cheese and now the closest known to cheddar cheese that we've been able to find, plus they dabble in a few other projects!

Vineyard in the Fleches
|
Located about an hour north of Cafayate toward Cachi in the Fleches (arrows) park, tucked off the road about another 15k down a dirt road lies one of the Domingo family vineyards. Some of the most amazing sites with vineyards tucked inbetween the most amazing rock formations. Due to a pre-existing water system (probably dating back 100's of years with on-site ruins and petroglyphs), the grapes thrive at a high altitude and cools nights! This place is truly majestic, you can feel it in the air when you step outside the car. The people that live their and take care of the place are blessed to live in such beauty daily! They have two more amazing locations that I hope to share more photos soon - Tolombon and Yacochuya.
