Rio Colorado, Divisidero Falls (Cascadas)

Rio EntranceAs you head out of town toward Tolombon, you take 25 de Mayo up to the divisidero to get to the start of the hike up the the Rio Colorado and the falls. Drive, or bike until the road ends and then park.

Once you are there, it is a bit difficult to find the trail head as it is not marked but if you stay to the right as you are facing the river and go up the canyon on the right, you will eventually hit the trail up to the falls. We found an entrance in the picture to the right, we climbed the hill and then followed the man made canal until the trail started.

Rio Colorado Trail

Rio CharlieThe trail is challenging but worth it! You can go as long as you like and turn back when you want, it's not just about the destination, it's gorgeous every step of the way. When you arrive at the trail head, there are usually several kids willing and ready to lead you up the mountain and to the falls. I would recommend it, as there are many options of river crossings and trails. Charlie and I had a lot of turning back and trying to find better routes on our own. Careful though, there are some pretty serious crossings you have to do to make it up there. Wading through thigh-high deep water, or trying to jump rock to rock. I recommend shoes that you can get wet and stay wet. There are several ways to go, some more involved than others. We even had to free climb a little on our way back!
